11-Year-Old Bullied Over 'Trump' Name Invited to the State of the Union

State of the Union Guest Joshua Trump invited because he was bullied over his name

An 11-year-old boy who says he's been the victim of bullying because of his last name, will get to attend the State of the Union as guests of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump Tuesday night, the White House said.

Joshua Trump, a sixth-grader from Wilmington, Delaware, is not related to the president, but made headlines last year after his mother revealed her son had been bullied over his last name.

"Unfortunately, Joshua has been bullied in school due to his last name," the White House said in a release. "He is thankful to the First Lady and the Trump family for their support."

His mother, Megan Trump Berto told WPVI last year that other students would, "curse at him, they call him an idiot, they call him stupid."

Joshua's parents even pulled him out of school to be home-schooled at one point. They re-enrolled him in middle school in hopes the bullying would end.

“He said he hates himself, and he hates his last name, and he feels sad all the time, and he doesn’t want to live feeling like that anymore, and as a parent that’s scary,” Trump Berto said.

The White House says Joshua is a fan of science, art, and history and hopes to pursue a career that deals with animals.

One of Melania Trump main priorities in the White House has been her anti-bullying campaign, "Be Best."

Other guests invited to the State of the Union by Trump include; Debra Bissell, Heather Armstrong, and Madison Armstrong, who are family members of Gerald and Sharon David of Reno, Nevada. The Davids were allegedly killed by a 19-year-old illegal immigrant in January.

Trump has also invited Alice Marie Johnson, who was granted clemency for a life sentence by the president for a nonviolent drug offense after reality star Kim Kardashian lobbied on her behalf.
