Witness In Amber Guyger Trial Was Killed During Drug Deal: Cops

Dallas police say that Joshua Brown, a key witness in the murder trial of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was shot and killed during a drug deal gone wrong. Assistant Chief Avery Moore said that three men traveled from Louisiana to meet Brown in Dallas to purchase drugs.

During the drug deal, the four men began to argue and it quickly escalated into a physical altercation. Brown reportedly opened fire, shooting one of the men, identified as 20-year-old Jacquerious Mitchell in the chest. At that point, another one of the men, 22-year-old Thaddeous Green returned fire and shot Brown multiple times. He then grabbed a backpack and Brown's gun before fleeing in a car, which was being driven by 32-year-old Michael Diaz Mitchell.

They dropped Jacquerious at a hospital, where he was taken into custody. Officials also arrested Michael Mitchell, but Green remains at large.

Investigators found 12 pounds of marijuana, 143 grams of THC cartridges, and $4,000 in cash when they searched Brown's apartment.

"As you know, there's been speculation and rumors that have been shared by community leaders claiming that Mr. Brown's death was related to the Amber Guyger trial, and somehow the Dallas Police Department was responsible," Moore said. "I assure you that is simply not true. And I encourage those leaders to be mindful of their actions moving forward because their words have jeopardized the integrity of the city of Dallas as well as the Dallas Police Department."
