Tennessee COVID-19 report 4-14-20


The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 5,823 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 124 deaths as of Tuesday afternoon -- up from5,610 cases and 109 deaths Monday.

State health officials report 633 hospitalizations and 1,969 recoveries.

Across the state, TDH reports 46 as the average age of people diagnosed with the virus. The youngest death in the state was a person 10 or younger, but the majority of fatalities have occurred in people 61 and older.

TDH is reporting 1,359 cases in Shelby County -- an increase of eight since the Shelby County Health Department’s morning update. SCHD reported 30 deaths across the county as of Tuesday morning -- up two from Monday.

African Americans account for 71 percent of confirmed cases in Shelby County but only 20 percent across the state, according to Shelby County and Tennessee health officials.

In Shelby County, deaths have occurred in people 27 to 91 years old with the average age being 64. Fifty-four percent of the county’s fatalities contracted the virus from a close contact, and 81 percent had underlying cardiac conditions, according to the Shelby County health Department.

Memphis Fire Department Director Gina Sweat said Monday there are currently 21 positive cases within the police department, 19 cases within the fire department and 15 cases within the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The Shelby County Health Department is monitoring outbreaks at three long-term care facilities in Shelby County. As of Monday, there were seven confirmed cases each atThe Village at GermantownandParkway Rehabilitation Center of Memphisand eight cases, including three deaths, atCarriage Courtin east Memphis.
