NASA Photographs Eclipse on Jupiter

An amazing new image taken by NASA's Juno spacecraft shows the massive shadow created by one of Jupiter's moon as it passes between the planet and the sun. The breathtaking photo was reportedly snapped last week as the probe was performing one of its periodic close passes over the planet. Thanks to some fortuitous timing, it managed to catch the moment in which Jupiter's moon Io crossed in front of the sun and cast a mighty-looking shadow onto the gaseous giant.

Since the sun appears much smaller from Jupiter and Io is a rather sizeable celestial body, the combination results in a considerably sharper shadow than what one might see during such an event here on Earth. More on this remarkable story at the Coast to Coast AM website.
