Kent State Graduate Takes AR-10 To Campus To Protest Gun Ban For Students

A recent graduate of Kent State University decided to protest the school's policy that bans students from carrying guns on campus. Kaitlin Bennett grabbed her AR-10, strapped it over her back and walked over to the Kent Student Center for a post-graduation photoshoot. She posted the photos on Twitter, which featured her holding her graduation cap, which was decorated with an image of a rifle and the words "come and take it" written around it.

Now that I graduated from @KentState, I can finally arm myself on campus. I should have been able to do so as a student- especially since 4 unarmed students were shot and killed by the government on this campus.

Kent State University restricts students from bringing guns to campus but has no such restrictions on alumni. Bennett spoke with USA Today and said that she is "glad that my photos are making headlines because my intent was to start a discussion about gun rights on college campuses." She said she finds it "insulting" that "guests may protect themselves with firearms, but students cannot."

According to Kaitlin's Twitter bio, she is the Grassroots Director of the libertarian group Liberty Hangout and founded Liberty Hangout at Kent at the school. In a Facebook post, which featured a different photo of her carrying her AR-10 on campus, she said that during her time at the school she had "3 meetings with student conduct, 2 expulsion attempts, and a petition to get my student group kicked off campus." She added that it was "all for nothing" and that "the left did not win."
