NEW YORK OYSTERS ARE TAKING CARE OF NEW YORKERS

We've always heard, New Yorkers take care of New Yorkers. Well this certainly seems to solidify that statement, with this endeavor, The Billion Oyster Project. It's a huge collaboration involving schools, students, restaurants, islands, scientists, oysters and their shells.   Scientists are always making new discoveries and this latest one is quite impressive. Scientists have discovered a way to grow new oysters in the discarded shells and the Billion Oyster Project discovered those Oyster shells can significantly reduce the erosion of the Harbor.  What a WIN.  This article is so good and so detailed, you will want to read it for yourself: NPR, Andrea Strong, Oysters On The Half Shell Are Saving New York's Eroding Harbor.
