Bounty Hunters Charged After Breaking Into Wrong Tennessee Home

Two Tennessee bounty hunters were recently charged with breaking into the wrong Perry County home while searching for a woman, according to FOX 17. Now, authorities are emphasizing that they are "not above the law."

Perry County Sheriff Nick Weems said that Giles County men, Marcus and Roger Campbell were indicted by a Grand Jury and are facing several charges, including burglary and trespassing. He said that while he understands how they can assist law enforcement, they cannot break state laws to do so.

"Bail enforcement agents serve an important role in the criminal justice system but Tennessee has laws in place and 'bounty hunters' are not above them," he said in a statement.

According to Sheriff Weems, Marcus and Roger Campbell are accused of breaking into a person's home in October while searching for someone else. The news outlet reports that they allegedly caused damage when they gained entry into the Lobelville home through a window. The home was empty at the time of the incident.

Both Marcus and Roger Campbell were indicted and charged with aggravated burglary, vandalism, and trespassing. Though the incident occurred last year, FOX 17 reports, their indictments were delayed because of the pandemic.
