Free agent NFL wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week for allegedly strangling a woman who claimed to be his pregnant girlfriend while she was holding her daughter during a 911 call obtained by TMZ Sports on Thursday (February 13).
Toney, 26, a former first-round pick who has been traded or released by three NFL teams in four seasons, was charged with aggravated assault for strangulation and obstructing/harassing 911 calls in relation on February 6 in Douglasville, Georgia, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WANF Atlanta News First. The 911 call was placed at 12:01 p.m. local time during an alleged incident at a residence on January 14.
The woman, who identified herself as Toney's live-in girlfriend and said she was "seven months pregnant," claimed Toney "put his hands on me while I was holding my daughter." The woman was asked if she needed an ambulance and responded, "I don't feel any, like, contractions or anything. So, no."
Shortly after, the woman claimed she fled from Toney so fast that she couldn't even put on her shoes.
"I'm at the neighbor's house," she said. "I had to run over here barefoot."
An officer wrote that the woman had red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes in a police report obtained by TMZ Sports. Toney was also reported to have allegedly tried to stop the woman from making 911 calls by taking her phone away from her during the incident.
Toney was selected by the New York Giants at No. 20 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The former University of Florida standout has struggled throughout his career, having been traded by the Giants to the Kansas City Chiefs midway through his second season, who then declined his fifth-year option and released him last offseason.
Toney was signed to the Cleveland Browns' practice squad last September before being promoted to the active roster in December, which saw him get flagged for a taunting penalty and muff a punt during his final two plays of a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14 before being released.
