Whoopi Goldberg Rips Ocasio-Cortez

The View’s Whoopi Goldberg called out newly sworn-in Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Monday for comments made in a wide-ranging — and much shared — 60 Minutes segment that aired on Sunday. The specific section to which Goldberg took apparent exception was the Congresswoman’s apparent calling out of establishment Democrats.

Anderson Cooper asked Ocasio-Cortez about her previous intentions to support Democratic primary candidates to unseat incumbent Democrats, which the 60 Minutes correspondent and CNN host noted as “politically dangerous tactics.” Ocasio-Cortez replied “It’s absolutely risky. it requires risk to try something new, but also we-we know so much of what we’ve tried in the past hasn’t worked, either,” which many saw as a shot to establishment Dems.

Goldberg opened by lauding Ocasio-Cortez as an “opinionated woman, which we like,” before calling AOC to the carpet as a Johnny come lately to the national political stage.

“But it is very, very difficult when people make accusations where you say, you know, the Democrats have done nothing, the establishment of the Democrats have done nothing,” Goldberg said, adding “And I just want to throw this out to you. [Rep.] John Lewis (D-GA) wasn’t sitting still. [Sen.] Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) wasn’t sitting still.

“There are a whole bunch of people in the Democratic Party who have been busting their asses to make sure that women get what they need, people get what they need, children get what they need.”

Goldberg added, “So you just got in there and I know you got lots of good ideas, but I would encourage you to sit still for a minute and learn the job.”

And in case the point was lost, she landed with “You don’t have to be born into it. You don’t have to know it when you step out, but before you start pooping on people and what they’ve done, you got to do something too.”

Friendly fire from Ms. Goldberg? We’ll see how this plays out.
